Two Types of Fasting - ask God which is best for you at this time
- Daniel Fast - fresh, frozen, juiced or dried fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, at least 64 oz. water daily, warm herbal teas in the morning and/or at bedtime (all in moderation). Fish or chicken if needed.
- Complete Fast - water, diluted apple juice or cranberry juice, or vegetable broth. No orange or grapefruit juice.
- Please consult with your physician as needed.
Fasting Guidelines - pray throughout
- Commit yourself to God in consecration to the fast in prayer.
- Drink up to 8 glasses of water at room temperature or slightly cool (not iced) per day.
- When gastric juices cause acidic reactions in the stomach, drink water, herbal tea, apple or cranberry juice at room temperature or slightly cool, not iced. Avoid orange and grapefruit juices.
- Drink warm or hot herbal teas before retiring to sleep and upon rising in the morning.
Breaking the Fast - pray for wisdom and discipline to break it slowly
- Begin slowly - soup dish for first and second meal (no bread or potato dishes)
- The third meal after breaking a fast should be salads, fresh vegetables or greens.
- Solid foods such as meats, rice, potatoes, pastas, etc. should only be eaten in small amounts on the second day after breaking the fast.
- The longer the period of the fast, the more soft food/soup dishes should be used when breaking it.
